It was a lively night at Red Rocks on April 10th. Brotherly duo, Dana and Alden, easied the crowd into the night with their modern jazz. Hailing from Eugene, Oregon, it is evident that their upbringing has influenced their creations. Alden, also affectionately known online as Gucci Pineapple, mentioned “We wrote a little song about our grandma's favorite grocery store” which tuned in their fans in the crowd to what song of theirs was coming next. The song, originally performed with Cinya Khan, a former classmate of Alden’s from Berklee Music School, is a lyrically simple love song set to the brassy tune of the saxophone and drums. Lines like “You're as sweet as lemon tea / You're mushy like pumpkin pie” reference both the food carried by the chain store and their love for their partner. “Let’s Go To Trader Joes” took the internet by storm, with folks soundtracking a once mundane shopping experience into a moment of whimsy. They continued their set with a mix of songs from their albums “Coyote, You’re My Star” and “Quiet Music for Young People”. Dana and Alden made a big venue jump since their last show in Denver, playing Colfax venue Lost Lake to a sold out crowd. South African singer-songwriter Alice Phoebe Lou played her set under the full moon. It was something so serendipitous that it left the fans wondering if she in fact is one of those witches. She played through her fan favorites like “Open the Door” and “Glow”. She is heading back to Denver in August with Colorado legends Tennis.

Once the lights dimmed the crowd was roaring waiting for Remi to dawn the stage. She came out to the groovy “Cherries & Cream”, from her latest album “Big Ideas”. The song was a perfect way to ease into the amount of dancing to come. At Morrisons high altitude, most performers have to adapt their sets to work through the conditions, but not Remi. She continued to surpass expectations, continuing her usual routine of high kicks matching the beat, bogeying around the stage, and effortlessly filling every nook and cranny of the amphitheater with her voice. The night consisted of songs old and new, including a jazzy rendition of her song “Sexy Villian” as seen on her NPR’s tiny desk concert. After taking lyric suggestions from the audience, Remi went on to improvise the lyrics to a new track titled “Lipstick Honeybun”. She finished the evening with a crowdpleaser, performing her funky “Photo ID”. While it was her first time at the rocks, we certainly hope it is not the last. Until then stay tuned to her socials to keep up with the rest of her tour!
